New-build Medium-load Hall

In addition to the previous work (2001) for Siemens at their site in Mülheim an der Ruhr aib was awarded the contract for the planning of a medium-load plant and the further development of the office premises.

Siemens is aiming for the GreenBuilding Certificate. This means that the primary energy requirements of the building fall below the values of EnEV 2007 (German Energy-Saving Regulation) by at least 25%. All the sensible alternative measures were investigated (e.g. geothermal power, heat retention, solar heat, reuse of water, daylighting) and these were assessed according to their cost effectiveness.

Cost limit

Siemens Real Estate stipulated very ambitious cost targets for both projects: for the production hall 900 €/m², which should preferably be undercut.

The medium load hall is equipped with one suction and one recharging image well to heat and cool the building. The system is rated at approx. 60 kW/h.

Town Planning

In accordance with aib‘s urban planning concept, the medium-load plant was planned in alignment with the heavy-load plant and is symmetric to the service road. The eaves height of the front sections was taken into consideration in order to ensure the desired urban continuity.
