New Start for the Campus
The design for a new lecture hall building on the campus takes over the basic form of an homogeneous, rectangular structure from the existing structure of the 1970s, which forms a simple, but strong, spatial precursor to a future western entrance to the campus and rounds off the ensemble of the extensions built in the 90s.
The transitory character of the site between the campus and the landscape is made tangible by a diagonal room structure of the foyer as an architectural promenade within the building. The main entrance to the campus foyer has a covered access and an open staircase to a mezzanine floor. The room figure of the foyer runs through between the divisible lecture hall and the seminar rooms and via the southern garden foyer opens up the adjoining free space, which will be enhanced as a campus garden with terrace and planting.
By opening the seminar rooms to the foyer, a single event space can be created. The students’ working areas are situated on the mezzanine floor and can be used at all times.
The lecture hall can be divided by an automatic, vertically folded partition wall. The wall and ceiling surfaces are acoustically insulated, whereby the wall surfaces in the base area (up to approx. 3 m high) are provided with wood cladding, in which the door systems and the installations necessary have been integrated.
